So, it’s goodbye Mayfield, hello Ranmoor. Our first meeting at the Ranmoor Parish Centre was an out of this world experience as David Whitehouse held the audience captivated by his talk ‘One Small Step’. I think everybody believed the talk would be about Apollo but it started in World War II and finished with Alan Shepard, the first American in space. The talk moved between the USSR and USA with explanations of how the politics got involved with the ‘space race’. An extremely interesting talk in a lovely new venue. A few tweaks (turn the heating down, room layout for maximum chair usage) need to be made but we think we will be happy in our new ‘home’ as made clear by the 65 attendees, 15 of whom were non-members and 4 people joined the society for the first time.
